Gun Guards

The Gun Guards were a highly trained unit of riflemen serving the city-state of Destral. They wielded a variety of unique, experimental weapons and are stationed South of the Modwuk River, on the edge of the Kaktis Desert. They were stationed in watch towers all along the border, where they had an excellent vantage point over the sprawling desert before them. Their targets: the undead armies of The Pharaoh. While the Pharaoh’s Pyramid had reached the maximum range of its life-stealing capabilities, the lich constantly tried to expand his reach by sending out hordes of hard-to-kill but slow shambling undead warriors. Where all these bodies came from remains a mystery, albeit one that people try not to think about.

The Defensive Line #

The Gun Guards were stationed 2 per tower, with a third guard every 3rd tower. There were 16 towers originally constructed, but 2 were destroyed from combat during the early days after the defensive line was established. Destral periodically sent out zeppelins with repair crews to fix currently standing towers, as well as attempt to rebuild fallen towers. Zeppelins also deliver supplies such as food and ammunition to the Gun Guards, as such an airborne convoy would be safe against bandits and other opportunists in the way.

Gun Guard towers were positioned close enough together that if the undead were spotted, a minimum of 3 towers would have line of sight to lay fire.

Arcane Rifles #

Gun Guard weapons utilized magical ingredients in their mechanisms and ammo. Their blueprints were so top secret that once such a firearm was completed and proven to work, the blueprint was completely destroyed, leaving only copies in the brains of the engineers who built it. This helped prevent such powerful weapons from leaking into the black market (one of Destral's major fears of the advancement of their technology), and also lent to the uniqueness of weapons among the Gun Guards.
